A traditional proposal

Friday night I asked Adelle to marry me, and she said yes!

Parents:
My parents knew I would be asking her in time, it was discussed when I visited them in Winter. Last week I formally asked her Father, John. We had just finished dinner, and Adelle had just left. I called him to the room where Sue was napping in front of the Television. "John, I would like to ask your permission to marry Adelle." "Well, I'm a bit taken aback, it's the first time I've been asked that, well um, yes, ahh... Isn't this where I say that I'll think about it for a few days?" "Respectfully, I'll be proceeding either way." " Very good, as it should be" And then I swore them both to secrecy for a while.

Friday night:
Adelle told me that she had leave on Friday night, so I drove up to Canberra from Wodonga, and we met at Koko Black  which was the site of our first proper date. We had chili hot chocolates each and shared a brownie. I waited for a natural break in the conversation, but one was not forthcoming, so I palmed the ring. I then took the spoon from her hands. In one motion I went to one knee, slipped the ring on her finger and asked "Will you marry me". She said yes.

Ring:
The ring is gold with an Australian dark blue sapphire and two flanking smaller Australian blue sapphires to either side. Between the sapphires are a sprinkling of diamonds. A photo will be forthcoming.

Wedding?:
Yes :)
I would like a full suit style wedding, so it will likely be in a colder part of the year. We do not have a date, or even a city yet. Canberra for Adelle's family? Brisbane for mine and the boys? Wodonga to make everyone else have to travel? Prague just because?

Any more questions and I'll answer them in the comments.

Yay I like the idea of a full suit wedding. It means I get to buy a pretty dress :P

Everyone needs the occasional excuse to buy a pretty dress.

Yay! What a lovely proposal. I like the idea of a wedding at the colder part of the year... hopefully I will be back in time! (hmmm.. bit of an assumption there that you would invite me)

Oh shit! And zowie! And congratulations to both of you, yes! Cool!

That's fantastic news, Bartski. I dunno whether Tasmania qualifies as a honeymoon destination... but whatever excuse you use, you've got to come down this way sometime - both of you. There's fine wine, good food and a very credible guest room awaiting.

Congratulations Bart, I remember you were there when Mr K proposed to me :) Your story was lovely... I particularly like that your asked her Dad, and even though it's old fashioned, I'm sure her father was stoked to be asked!
Love to you both
Robyn

Kiriel - one pencilled in plan is a 'fill a hall' wedding & reception, rather than a 'sit down dinner'. That way we can fit everyone who wants to come. I have too many friends to afford to cater to everyone who might show up...

Flinthart: Sounds qite likely. We really do want to get down there, and I know Tassie is lovely, and want to show Adelle.

Mr Boylan: In all seriousness - If you are driving when you get to Australia, please consider popping in on the way through Wodonga on the way between Sydney and Melbourne. If you are flying, we understand if you fly right over the top :)

Robyn: And I really enjoyed being driver man when the big rock was being collected :)

Holy shit, Bart, congratulations to you both! Sorry, I've been mostly out of things for a bit and completely missed this. Great news!

And I say Prague :) Specifically, the Sedlec Ossuary. You can even hunt up that firm that grows wedding rings from your own bone tissue to stay in theme!
